Press release No. 177 of 22 April 2022
WIESBADEN – In February 2022, 151 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany, according to provisional results. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was 25 fatalities more than in February 2021. The number of people injured was markedly up by 27%, or roughly 4,400, to 20,600 year on year. However, due to the lockdown measures applicable in February 2021, the development of accidents in that month was more strongly characterised by the Covid-19 pandemic than in February 2022. The number of fatalities counted in February 2021 was lower than in any month since German reunification. The number of people injured had reached an all-time low already in January 2021 and remained at a low level in February 2021.
