WIESBADEN – According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the real (price-adjusted) turnover of retail enterprises in Germany was 0.1% lower and their nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 2.1% higher, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, in March 2022 compared with February 2022. Retail turnover in real terms has thus stagnated from the beginning of the year as the decline in March offset the increase in February 2022 (+0.1% on January 2022). Compared with March 2021, retail trade recorded a 2.7% decrease in turnover in real terms and a nominal increase of 3.1%. The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the high price increases in retail trade.
