Press release No. 281 of 5 July 2022
WIESBADEN – A total of 1,621 scientists completed their post-doctoral lecturing qualifications (habilitations) at universities in Germany in 2021. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the total of habilitations rose by roughly 6% compared with the previous year, reaching its highest value since 2016. The proportion of habilitations by women fell slightly from 35% to 34% because the year-on-year increase in habilitations of men (from 995 to 1,071) was larger than that of women (from 538 to 550). In 2011, the proportion of women had been 25%.
Long time series are available in table Statistics of habilitations (21351-0001 - 21351-0003) in the GENESIS-Online database.
