WIESBADEN – In May 2022, the calendar and seasonally adjusted turnover in accommodation and food services increased by a real (price adjusted) 8.5% and a nominal (not price adjusted) 9.8% compared with April 2022. Real turnover in accommodation and food services more than doubled (+126.8%) compared with May 2021, when the hotel and restaurant industry was still subject to severe Covid-19 restrictions. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that real turnover in May 2022 was still 14.9% below the level of February 2020, the month before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany.
