- 16.3 million air passengers used the major German airports: 215.1% more than in June 2021, but their number was still roughly one fourth lower (24.7%) than in June 2019
Air transport still below pre-crisis level in 26 of the 27 EU countries in June 2022 - with the exception of Greece
WIESBADEN – Approximately 16.3 million air passengers arrived at, or departed from, the 23 largest commercial airports in Germany in June 2022. Their number has more than tripled (+215.1%) compared with June 2021, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). At the time, there had been severe restrictions of domestic and international tourism due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the pre-crisis level of 21.6 million passengers recorded in June 2019 was not reached (-24.7%).
