WIESBADEN – The supply of and demand for hospital services have remained nearly unchanged in 2021, the second year of the Covid-19 pandemic, compared with a year earlier. The total number of beds provided (483,532), among them 27,394 intensive care beds and 7,494 intermediate care beds, corresponded to the level of the previous year, according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). These figures are annual averages. They differed from the 2020 figures by less than 1 percent at the federal level. The number of hospitals (1,886) also was at the level of the first pandemic year.
