Persons in employment resident in Germany, July 2022

WIESBADEN – Roughly 45.4 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in July 2022. According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment increased by 25,000, or 0.1%, compared with the previous month, following an average increase of 48,000 people (+0.1%) in each of the months from January to June 2022. The number of persons in employment thus has grown since spring 2021. It has remained largely unaffected by the Covid-19 infection waves and, as yet, by the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
Adjusted unemployment rate unchanged at 2.9% in July 2022
According to calculations based on the labour force survey, 1.40 million people were unemployed in July 2022. That was a decrease of 62,000, or 4.3%, compared with July 2021. The unemployment rate was 3.2% (July 2021: 3.4%).
Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects due, for instance, to weather conditions or strike, the number of unemployed stood at 1.27 million, which was slightly higher than in June 2022 (3,600 people; 0.3%). The adjusted unemployment rate remained at 2.9% in July 2022.
