WIESBADEN – This year more children started school in Germany than in each of the past 17 years. The number of school starters was 810,700 at the beginning of the current school year of 2022/2023, according to provisional results. That was an increase by 40,000 children, or 5.2%, compared with the previous year as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). A higher number of school starters was last recorded in school year 2005/2006 (822,300 children).
