WIESBADEN – In the third quarter of 2022, approximately 26,500 abortions were reported in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the number of abortions rose by 16.7% in the third quarter of 2022 compared with the third quarter of 2021. The number of abortions rose significantly in the first three quarters of 2022, following decreases in 2021 (-5.4% on 2020) and in 2020 (-0.9% on 2019). A clear assessment of whether and how this development is associated with the course of the Covid-19 pandemic still cannot be made on the basis of the data available.
