WIESBADEN – In January 2023, just under 23,000 people were injured in traffic accidents in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this is 8%, or just under 1,800 people, more than in the same month a year earlier. The number of traffic accident fatalities increased by 11 people to 158 in January 2023 year on year. Compared with January 2020, the last January before the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of fatalities was down by 47 and that of persons injured by roughly 2,900 (-11%).
