Wholesale selling prices, January 2025

WIESBADEN – The selling prices in wholesale trade were 0.9% higher in January 2025 than in January 2024. Compared with the same month a year earlier, the rate of change was +0.1% in December 2024, and -0.6% in November 2024. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that wholesale prices in January 2025 also rose by 0.9% on December 2024.

Higher prices for non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products, and for coffee, tea, cocoa and spices 

The main reason for the year-on-year increase in wholesale prices (total) in January 2025 were higher prices in the wholesale of non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products (+24.4%). 

Coffee, tea, cocoa and spices were also considerably more expensive at the wholesale level (+34.4%) than a year earlier, as were sugar, confectionery and bakery products (+11.0%) and milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats and oils (+7.0%). 

By contrast, the wholesale prices of iron, steel and ferrous semi-finished metal products (-6.3%) and of computers and peripheral equipment (-6.2%) were lower than in January 2024. 

The wholesale prices of chemical products were also lower (-2.6%) compared with January 2024.
