WIESBADEN – The selling prices in wholesale trade were 0.8% higher in April 2025 than in April 2024. Compared with the same month a year earlier, the rate of change was +1.3% in March 2025, and +1.6% in February 2025. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that wholesale prices in April 2025 declined by 0.1% on March 2025.

Higher prices for food, beverages and tobacco, non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products

The main reason for the year-on-year increase in wholesale prices (total) in April 2025 were higher prices in the wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco, with prices up 4.6% from April 2024, on average. The wholesale prices particularly of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices were much higher than a year earlier (+32.2%), as were the prices of sugar, confectionery and bakery products (+16.6%). Milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats and oils (+9.1%) were also considerably more expensive than in the same month a year earlier.

The wholesale selling prices of non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products also increased substantially compared with the same month of the previous year (+21.3%).

By contrast, the prices observed in the wholesale of solid fuels and mineral oil products were down 8.4% from April 2024.

Year on year, lower prices were also reported in the wholesale of computers and peripheral equipment (-5.8%) and iron, steel and ferrous semi-finished metal products (-4.4%).
