Harmonised index of consumer prices, January 2019:
+1.7% on the same month a year earlier (provisional)

WIESBADEN – The inflation rate in Germany as measured by the consumer price index is expected to be 1.4% in January 2019. Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that consumer prices are expected to decline by 0.8% compared with December 2018.
In January 2019, the harmonised index of consumer prices for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 1.7% year on year and to decrease by 1.0% on December 2018.
Note: revision of the consumer price index for Germany
The consumer price index is revised and a new base year introduced at regular intervals. From reference month January 2019, the index is rebased from 2010 to base year 2015. In this context, the consumer price indices are recalculated as of January 2015.
