Press Growing numbers of women earn their own living

WIESBADEN – In 2016, own employment was the main source of livelihood for roughly 72% of the women aged between 25 and 55 years. To mark the International Women's Day on 8 March, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this figure was much lower, at 64%, ten years earlier. In eastern Germany, own employment was the main source of livelihood for approximately 77% of the women in 2016, as compared with 70% in western Germany.

In Germany as a whole, the income of the partner or of other family members was the primary source of livelihood for 16% of all women between 25 and 55 years of age.
