Press release No. 301 of 12 August 2019

WIESBADEN – In 2018 unemployment among young people aged 15 to 24 years was the lowest ever since German reunification. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports this to coincide with the International Youth Day on 12 August. The unemployment rate of this age group was 6.2% in Germany as a whole. While it amounted to 8.6% in the new Länder, it was 5.8% in the former territory of the Federal Republic. The highest level of youth unemployment was recorded in 2005, after several years of economic stagnation. In that year the unemployment rate of 15 to 24 year olds was 15.2% in Germany.
