Press release No. 447 of 21 November 2019
WIESBADEN – In 2018, 13,636 oil heating systems subject to inspection were decommissioned in Germany and 9,662 oil heating systems were commissioned after inspection. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 3,974 more oil heating systems subject to inspection were decommissioned than commissioned. The question of whether a system is subject to inspection is governed by the Ordinance on installations for handling water-hazardous substances, depending on the volume and location circumstances.
For example, above-ground oil heating systems to be decommissioned that are not located in a water protection area are subject to inspection only if their tank capacity is more than 10,000 litres. Consequently, the total of decommissioned oil heating systems can be even higher.
