WIESBADEN – In order to slow down the spread of coronavirus, nearly all Länder have now closed the child day care centres and schools. Many families have to arrange childcare at short notice. This is a challenge for parents in employment and in particular for lone parents. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that approximately 692,000 lone parents with children under 13 years were in employment in Germany in 2018, 292,000 of them full-time and 400,000 part-time. 90% of the employed lone parents with children under 13 years were women (620,000).
