WIESBADEN – According to provisional results, the amount of waste generated in Germany was 416.5 million tonnes in 2019. To mark the World Environment Day on 5 June 2021, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the quantity of waste remained at nearly the same level as in the preceding year, with a slight decrease of 0.2%. In 2018, waste generation had reached an all-time high at 417.2 million tonnes.
