WIESBADEN – In the first quarter of 2021, roughly 24,600 abortions were reported in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of abortions decreased by 7.0% in the 1st quarter of 2021 compared with the 1st quarter of 2020. In 2020, the year dominated by the coronavirus pandemic, a total decrease of just 0.9% was observed. The data reported do not reveal an obvious cause for the decrease in the first quarter of 2021.
