WIESBADEN – An average of 27,200 children seeking protection were born in Germany every year from 2015 to 2019. To mark the World Refugee Day on 20 June, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that their number has grown significantly since 2015. An average of 4,400 newborn children with protection status were registered in the five years prior to 2015. This calculation is based on an ad hoc evaluation of the Central Register of Foreigners regarding the 2010 to 2019 birth cohorts.
