WIESBADEN – In 2020, the public prosecution offices in Germany completed 4,996,000 criminal investigation proceedings. The number of completed proceedings increased by 1.2% on a year earlier (4,939,000). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the proportions of individual types of offences were similar to those in 2019. Offences against property accounted for just under a third (31.6%) of the criminal proceedings completed. They were followed by road traffic offences at 17.4%, crimes against life or physical integrity at 9.3%, and offences against the Narcotics Act at 8.6% of the proceedings completed.
