Prices of residential property, 1st quarter of 2022 (provisional)

WIESBADEN – The prices of residential property (house price index) in Germany rose an average 12.0% in the first quarter of 2022 on the same quarter a year earlier. The rate of increase of the house price index exceeded 10% for the fourth time in a row, compared with the same quarter of the previous year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the prices of dwellings and of single-family and two-family houses were up by an average 0.8% compared with the previous quarter. This suggests that the upward trend is slowing slightly. The prices of residential property had risen by 4.1% in the third quarter of 2021 and by 3.1% in the fourth quarter, quarter on quarter.
