WIESBADEN – The number of foreigners from countries outside the European Union (EU) coming to Germany to work here for a limited period of time has gone up considerably in recent years. At the end of 2021, just over 295,000 people who held a temporary residence permit for employment purposes were on the Central Register of Foreigners. Their number has more than tripled (+226%) within ten years, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports. At the end of 2011, well above 90,500 people with such a residence title were registered in Germany.
