19/03/2025 – Roughly 297.1 million litres of sparkling wine were sold in 2024. This comprises taxed domestic sales (255.5 million litres) and tax-exempt exports (41.6 million litres). The tax revenue due to the Federation from the taxed sales of sparkling wine amounted to 346.8 million euros. Sparkling wine tax statistics cover all taxed domestic and foreign sparkling wine varieties (for example, Sekt (German sparkling wine), champagne), including sparkling fruit wines with an alcoholic strength of less than 6%.
The taxation of intermediate products is shown separately. Intermediate products are fermented products to which alcohol produced by distillation has been added; the best known are Sherry, Port wine and Madeira. For 2024, the tax revenue due was 37.6 million euros from the sale of 26.1 million litres subject to taxation.
