Persons in employment resident in Germany, December 2022

WIESBADEN – Roughly 45.7 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in December 2022. According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment rose slightly by 21,000 (0.0%) on the previous month. In November 2022, the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment increased by 33,000 (+0.1%) month on month.

 

Adjusted unemployment rate at 2.9% in December 2022

According to results of the labour force survey, 1.22 million people were unemployed in December 2022. That was a decrease of 95,000, or 7.2%, compared with December 2021. The unemployment rate was 2.8% (December 2021: 3.0%).

Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects due, for instance, to weather conditions or strike, the number of unemployed stood at 1.30 million, which was slightly less than in November 2022 (-10,900 people). The adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 2.9% in December 2022 (November 2022: 3.0%).
