21 December 2022 Benefits for asylum seekers, 2021: number of people entitled to benefits up 4.3%

At the end of 2021, roughly 399,000 people in Germany received standard benefits in accordance with the Act on Benefits for Asylum Seekers (AsylbLG). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the number of recipients increased by 4.3%, or 17,000, compared with 2020. That was the first increase in the number of recipients of standard benefits since 2015.

8.4 million euros spent as part of the education and participation package for young asylum seekers in the third quarter of 2018

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, general government in Germany spent 8.4 million euros on benefits of the education and participation package in accordance with the Act on Benefits for Asylum Seekers. Roughly 64% of the expenditure was made for recipients aged 6 to 13 years and approximately 17% for the age group of 14 to 17 year olds.
