Consumer prices in January 2012: +2.1% on January 2011

Press release No. 048 / 2012-02-10  In January 2012 the consumer prices in Germany were up 2.1% on January 2011. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the inflation rate as measured by the consumer price index thus remained slightly above 2% (December 2011: also +2.1%). Compared with December 2011, the consumer price index markedly decreased by 0.4%.



More than 40% of people employed in accommodation and food services working part time

Press release No. 049 / 2012-02-10  In 2010, the main activity of a total of 1.49 million people was in accommodation and food services. A share of 41.4% of them worked part time. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) based on results of the microcensus on the occasion of the International trade fair for hotels, restaurants, catering, confectionery and café (INTERGASTRA), which will take place in Stuttgart from 11 February 2012.
